The lodge and its surrounding 22 log cabins are on Burntside Lake in Ely, MN. We found this place in 1990 and can't wait each year for our annual visit. This is the most relaxing and serene place to spend a week. We have been to Ely several times but Burntside Lodge is our favorite place to stay. The resort was under the ownership and direction of Willy Alden and his brother Lyman. The property continued under Willy Alden’s ownership until 1941, when he sold it to Ray and Nancy LaMontagne. There are many small cabins plus a main lodge that houses a lounge and dining room, all original log construction from the early 20th century plus a boathouse and many outbuildings--in short, a resort with great charm and history. Burntside Lodge is a delight as you drive up the road. It was wonderful to see the iconic boathouse rebuilt after the mighty storm that destroyed it in July 2016. The lobby is rustic beauty and there are wonderful local painting, cards in the gift shop along with many other wonderful items for purchase.
